Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly interested in signing experienced defender Mats Hummels, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Borussia Dortmund.

According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler has confirmed the club's interest in the former Germany international defender.

Hummels, 35, has held talks with Brighton over a surprise move to the south coast club after leaving Dortmund at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The experienced defender is a free agent after leaving the Bundesliga giants, where he won the German Cup three times and the German Super Cup twice.

Brighton are reportedly considering a move for Hummels as they look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The Seagulls have had a successful season under De Zerbi, finishing ninth in the Premier League and reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

The addition of Hummels would provide Brighton with a wealth of experience and quality at the back.

The German defender has made over 400 appearances for Dortmund and has also been capped 76 times by his country.

Brighton are not the only club interested in signing Hummels, with other Premier League clubs and teams from across Europe also said to be monitoring his situation.

However, the Seagulls are hopeful that they can convince the experienced defender to move to the south coast.
